A Review of Counter-mapping in the Pacific Rim.
Counter-mapping projects have sprung around the world, particularly in the Pacific Rim. This type of mapping has turned into a popular approach not only for indigenous land claims, but also in the contexts of natural resource management. Although the projects have a common goal, the social, cultural, economic, and political contexts of the projects are widely diverse among countries and even within country. In this paper I will review the contexts of having counter-mapping in Canada, United States, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines. In addition, I will also review the implementation of the counter-mapping and the technologies applied in those countries.
