3531: Indigenous Methodologies: Reconciling Academic Paradigms with Indigenous Practices II
Thursday, 3/9/06, from 3:00 PM - 4:40 PM
Session Description:
In the last few years, academic research of Indigenous issues has spawned several conferences and critical discussions of culturally appropriate research strategies. Conventional academic scholarship and practices are being challenged by indigenous scholars seeking validation of their cultural knowledge systems. Academic scholarship must keep pace if it is to remain relevant to indigenous communities and societies in the 21st century. These sessions intend to provide scholars an opportunity to locate themselves within a range of intellectual debates on research methods and academic practices evolving in indigenous communities. The last two years have proven that one session is not enough time for the audience to participate. Thus, the purpose of the second session is meant to be more of a round table discussion about the issues presented in the first session.
