Explorers
Guam and the Marianas Islands were the first Pacific Islands to encounter Europeans. Here is the story of Magellan's landing on Guam.

Missionaries
While Guam remained relatively unimportant to the Spanish Empire, it became extremely important to the Jesuit mission. The death of Father San Vitores is a major turning point in the history of Guam.

Colony
A series of "Chamorro Wars" followed the death of Father San Vitores. These resulted in the relocation and consolidation of Chamorros, with the creation of new villages, and a permanent Spanish administration.

Society
The Chamorro population was devasted during the time of the Chamorro wars, largely through introduced diseases. Meanwhile, Filipinos and Mexicans were brought over in small numbers.

Aftermath
After the subjugation of the Chamorros, a largely uneventful lifestyle settles in on Guam.
