Manoa Heiau

Up in Manoa Valley

A forest of mostly mango trees now covers the short and steep Manoa valley. Somewhere up here lie the ruins of another heiau.

In Manoa Valley, up in the back, there is the remains of another heiau. Valley. Chipper says that "We know very very little about it, except that it was mapped, and its back there, and to my knowledge there are no oral traditions that associate its function or use within the ahupua‘a. It's labeled a luakini primarily because of its architectural design. To my knowledge, there has never been any in depth archaeological work done on it."

These several sites help constitute the Hawaiian character of the Ha‘ena as a place. Language helps encode the nature of Hawaiian places. Then from here, we turn our attention to the sea.
