The Battle of Nuuanu
Perhaps the most famous event in Hawaiian history, this battle culminates
at the pali of Nuuanu, where the defeat of the Oahu forces
assures Kamehameha's sovereignty over the island, making it inevitable
that he would unite all the islands into one kingdom.

Pohukaina
A little-known but highly sacred site on the grounds of Iolani
Palace, Pohukaina was the burial place of the Hawaiian chiefs. Jim Bartels

Iolani Palace
Kamehameha and his successors take up residence in Honolulu, where their
magnificent grass houses soon give way to Western-style buildings. JIm

Kaniakapupu
Kamehameha III, whose reign was the longest and in some ways most important
of the successors to the throne, established a summer residence high
in Nuuanu Valley. Here, away from Western influence, he maintained
his Hawaiian traditions.
